Upon entering the delightful market town of Bampton, lined with quaint shops and traditional pubs all honey-coloured in classic Cotswold stone, you may feel some of the town landmarks feel oddly familiar. That would be because it’s also doubles as the fictional Yorkshire village of Downton in the acclaimed British period drama, Downton Abbey.

Fans of the series should head to St Mary’s Church where some of the most dramatic scenes have been played out, from weddings to christenings. Even if you’re not a Downton devotee, this classic Cotswold town with its peaceful cobbled streets, Morris dancing in May and little shops and art galleries offer a taste of authentic British country life.
